A growing movement in the United Kingdom is championing the incorporation of ayurveda into the nation’s mainstream healthcare framework. Proponents argue that this ancient Indian medical tradition offers a cost-effective, holistic alternative to conventional healthcare, enhancing overall well-being.
“The UK’s initiative to integrate ayurveda into its healthcare system has the potential to revolutionize public health options and address modern health challenges in a holistic and accessible way. By embracing this traditional Indian practice, the UK can tap into centuries of wisdom that emphasize balance, natural remedies and preventive care,” said Amarjeet Singh Bhamra who inspired the formation of the Ayurveda Centre of Excellence in UK.
He said that the The UK’s All Party Parliamentary Group for Indian Traditional Sciences is championing the integration of ayurveda into the country’s healthcare system through the Ayurveda Centre of Excellence. This initiative aims to persuade the UK government to recognize ayurveda as a complementary approach to modern medicine, emphasizing its potential to provide holistic and cost-effective healthcare solutions.
The London Ayurveda Summit, scheduled for October 24-25, will convene health policymakers, practitioners and researchers to explore integrating ayurveda into mainstream healthcare, Amarjeet said.
The purpose of the group is to promote and facilitate all Indian traditional sciences practiced in the UK and abroad such as ayurveda, yoga, vastu and unani.
“The UK is poised to revolutionize its healthcare system by embracing ancient Indian wisdom. A groundbreaking summit is set to convene, bringing together UK health policymakers and global ayurveda experts to explore the vast potential of prevention-oriented treatments. By integrating ayurveda into the National Health Service (NHS), the UK aims to alleviate chronic illnesses stemming from unhealthy lifestyles, ultimately reducing the financial burden on the healthcare system.”
He said that from pioneering countries where ayurveda has successfully complemented allopathic treatments will gather to share expertise and insights.
“With the UK’s rising interest in holistic wellness, we believe ayurveda is poised to seamlessly integrate with allopathic medicine, enhancing patient care and outcomes,” he said.
