Food has been the most important part of any Indian celebration. It is a custom of preparing different delicacies at every festival, and Diwali is the festival of sweets… Gujiya, gulabjamu, kajukatli, laado and many more. But these all are high in calories and  you can increase your weight and even spike the blood sugar level. That does not mean that you cannot enjoy your favourite sweets this Diwali. Dry fruit laddus

It’s a great idea to add dry fruits to a Diwali sweets recipe as they are rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals and a source of healthy fats. You can easily make dry fruit laddus at home. It requires very less ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Dates (seedless, chopped)- 1.5 cups
  • Mixed nuts (chopped)- 1 cup
  • Dried coconut- 2 tsp
  • Cardamom powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Seeds- ¼ cup
  • Ghee- 1-2 tbsp

Method

  • Soak dates in warm water for half-an-hour.
  • Mix dates, roasted nuts, pumpkin, sesame and melon seeds, dried coconuts and cardamom powder in a bowl until the mix is soft enough to roll.
  • Grease hands with ghee and roll the mixture into small balls
  • Leave them for a few minutes to firm up.

Walnut burfi

You can make healthy walnut burfi at home. Walnuts are rich in omega 3 fatty. omega-3 supports heart health by reducing inflammation and lowering cholesterol levels. Walnuts  are also good for your brain and rich in antioxidants.

Walnut barfi

Ingredients

  • Walnuts- ½ cup
  • Pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds- 3 tbsp
  • Dates (seedless, chopped)- 1.5 cups
  • Ghee- 2 tsp
  • Cardamom powder- 1/4 tsp

Method

  • Add roasted walnuts in a food processor and grind them. You can also chop them.
  • Heat 1 tsp ghee in a pan. Add pumpkin and sesame seeds.
  • Roast until golden, then set aside.
  • Add 1 tsp of ghee and chopped dates and cook on low heat until sticky.
  • Add walnuts and cardamom powder to the date mixture and mix well.
  • Spread the mixture onto a greased plate, press down, and let set for 1-2 hours. 
  • Cut into squares and enjoy.

Chia pudding

Chia seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, and antioxidants . It promotes overall health and well-being. So, try chia Pudding to this year’s Deepavali sweet recipe list.

  • Ingredients
  • Chia seeds- 4 tbsp
  • Fruits of your choice- 1/2 cup
  • Milk- 1 cup
  • Honey- 1-2 tbsp
  • Salt- 1 pinch

Instructions

Mix chia seeds, milk, fruits honey and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Stir well.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 to 3 hours.
Stir it again and refrigerate overnight. 
Topped with your favourite fruits, berries and nuts.
Chia pudding is ready to serve

Anjeer Barfi

Anjeer are a good source of  fiber, calcium, magnesium,  zinc.  It helps maintaining digestion, blood sugar, bones and heart health.

Ingredients

  • Figs- ¾ cups
  • Mixed nuts- ¾ cups
  • Dates- ¼ cups
  • Cinnamon powder- ½ table spoon
  • cardamom powder- ½ table spoon

Method

  • Chop nuts, figs and dates.
  • In a pan, dry roast the nuts till crunchy.
  • Add chopped figs in the same pan. Cook till they turn soft.
  • Add dates, cinnamon and cardamon powder. Mix and cook till the mixture become sticky and thick.
  • Add nuts and stir well. Cook till the mixture gets firm.
  • Add it to a greased plate and roll with a rolling pin.
  • Cool it and cut into squares.
  • Your anjeer barfi is ready to serve.
