The Glue Board Manufacturers Association (GBMA) has recommended that the pharmaceutical industry adopt rodent control as a critical part of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to meet global and domestic regulatory requirements. With an imminent surge in leptospirosis and plague cases, effective rodent control is becoming essential for public health and safety.
GBMA stresses the importance of rodent control in the pharmaceutical industry, as part of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), to meet global and domestic regulatory requirements. This urgency is amplified by the looming surge in leptospirosis and plague cases, underscoring the need for effective rodent control measures to safeguard public health and safety
They have also expressed concerns over the Animal Welfare Board of India’s (AWBI) advisories, which may lead to restrictions or bans on glue boards. AWBI, a statutory advisory body established under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, aims to promote animal welfare and prevent cruelty.

However the pharmaceutical industry is taking proactive steps to integrate rodent control into Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) due to the rising concern over rodent-borne diseases like leptospirosis and plague. These diseases, transmitted by rodents, have heightened the urgency for stringent pest control measures, particularly in facilities responsible for public health and safety.
The Glue Board Manufacturers Association (GBMA) is championing the use of glue boards as a vital tool in rodent control, particularly in industries like pharmaceuticals where maintaining strict hygiene is crucial. As rodent-borne diseases like leptospirosis and plague pose a growing threat, GBMA emphasizes the importance of effective pest management.
Glue boards offer an affordable and efficient solution, preventing contamination and ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) regulations. By advocating for glue boards, GBMA seeks to balance animal welfare concerns with public health needs, promoting a proactive approach to rodent control and safeguarding both industry operations and national well-being.
Mukesh Patel, secretary of GBMA and managing director of Arbuda Agrochemicals, stated, “Rodents pose a significant health risk by transmitting diseases such as leptospirosis and plague. The use of glue boards in rodent control is not just a matter of industry preference, but a necessity for protecting public health. Disrupting access to such critical tools without viable alternatives will only worsen the situation.”
The pharmaceutical industry has heightened its focus on stringent pest control measures, integrating glue boards and advanced rodent control methods into Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) strategies to prevent contamination and safeguard public health. As rodent-borne diseases rise, pharma companies are proactively adopting comprehensive pest management solutions to ensure rodent-free facilities
However, recent circulars from the AWBI have raised concerns about the future of glue boards, citing animal welfare considerations. Although no formal ban has been issued, confusion over regulatory advisories has led to misinformation, causing disruptions in industries that rely on these tools. GBMA stressed that comprehensive studies are needed to evaluate alternatives to glue boards and to ensure that public health concerns are weighed against animal welfare issues in a balanced regulatory framework.
Amidst regulatory uncertainty, the Glue Board Manufacturers Association (GBMA) reaffirms its dedication to responsible glue board usage, emphasizing proper handling and disposal to minimize unintended harm to non-target species. As leptospirosis and plague cases surge, threatening public health, the pharmaceutical industry rallies behind effective rodent control measures. Glue boards are pivotal in maintaining stringent safety standards, preventing contamination and ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Meanwhile, GBMA’s has launched a public awareness campaign to promote responsible glue board usage, educating industries and pest control operators on ethical handling and disposal practices. Amidst regulatory uncertainties, the pharmaceutical industry emphasizes rodent control as a critical safety component, adopting glue boards to prevent disease outbreaks and ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
GBMA’s initiative prioritizes balancing effective pest control with animal welfare, advocating for regulatory clarity and stakeholder engagement to safeguard public health and operational safety, ultimately mitigating risks associated with rodent-borne diseases.
